Workers' remittances to exceed $ 5.8b this year

The inflows of workers' remittances are expected to exceed US$ 5.8
billion in 2012. According to the report "Recent Economic Developments"
by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka it is expected that large inflows would
be received from the Sri Lankan diaspora for livelihood and community
development in the Northern and Eastern provinces.
Drug discovery and research symposium
An international symposium to highlight the latest developments in
drug discovery and research will be held today at Admantane House, the
Headquarters of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon at Welikada,
Rajagiriya.
Many speakers from the USA and Sri Lanka will participate and
highlight the great contributions that chemistry is making towards the
discovery and identification of new drugs for therapeutic use.
Poya program
A religious ceremony organised by the Vidyawasa Young Buddhist
Organisation of the Sri Gnanaswara Dhamma School staff and students,
Minioluwa, Mirigama will be held today. Ven.Dr. Weeragoda Sobitha Thera
will conduct the bodhi pooja.
Lecture on meditation
The Royal Asiatic Society Sri Lanka will hold a public lecture on
‘Flowing Milk: A lost Meditation Tradition from the Silk Road’ by Dr.
Lance Cousins, former President of Pali Text Society at 5.00 p.m. on
Tuesday. at the Gamini Dissanayake Auditorium. Colombo 7.
