GOLF: Victoria Golf and Country Resort's golf calender for year 2012
will tee off with the 4th Annual Rotary International Kandy's Charity
Golf Championship organised by the Rotary Club of Kandy which will be
worked at the Victoria golf course at Rajawalla, off Kandy on Saturday
January 21st and will be off to a shot gun start at 9.00 a.m.
The Rotary Kandy Charity Golf Championship has grown in stature over
the years with a very large participation of men and ladies golfers from
not only Kandy and other parts of the island.
The entire proceeds of this golf championship will go towards
community development work as the Rotary Club of Kandy has undertaken
several community development work to uplift the standard of lives of
the poor people and to give them a better place in the sun.
In the past they had carried out eye camps, Medical clinics,
providing drinking water, sanitation works, uplifting the living
standards, and providing drinking water to people in the villages in and
around Kandy and also other areas where there is a need for the
provision of such facilities.
It must be also recalled when tsunami devastation the Eastern coach,
the Rotary Club of Kandy, provided the affected fishermen with fishing
boats so that they may continue with their profession and their earnings
to sustain their families are not affected. These are only a few of the
social works carried out by this social organisation which is carrying
out yeomen services to the community. The Rotary Club of Kandy comprises
some of the leading citizens of the city of Kandy, whose prime concern
is social work and help the downtrodden people and to help them to
improve their standard of living. Thus the collection from this golf
championship will go a long way and will be utilised towards a worthy
cause.
In the past this golf championship has been a major attraction and
the there could have been no better choice than the Victoria Golf Course
which only recently won the award 'Best Golf Course in the Subcontinent'
for the fourth time since this competition was inaugurated ten years
ago. By winning this award four times in ten years Victoria Golf Course
has brought honour to the country, and their achievement is all the more
creditable as the course was opened only in 1999.
The Australian born General Manager of the Victoria Golf and Country
Resort Errol Johnston said that the course is in fine condition and the
golfers are certainly going to enjoy their golf. There will be not only
golf for the seasoned golfers, there will also free lessons to the
beginners and others free of charge to encourage more to take to golf.
In addition to this, the visitors could also make use of the pool,
tennis courts and use the golf clubs at a nominal fee for those not
having their own golf clubs.
