Rohan, Ishara stay in contention

Top seeded Rohan Sirisena and Ishara Madurangi won three matches each to remain as top contenders for the Senior National Championship title at the Senior Table Tennis Nationals 2011 organised by the Sri Lanka Table Tennis Association which is worked off at the Jagath Rajapaksa International Table Tennis Stadium at Ganegoda off Peradeniya yesterday. The match will be continued today at 8 a.m. and the finals will be worked off at 4 p.m.

Fifteen year old Ruwini Kannangara who won the Junior National title for girls on Friday night continued her good form to win all her matches to give her more experienced opponents a run today. There were several upsets which saw some of the ranked players being eliminated.Some of the ranked players who lost were Nuwani Navodya of Dharmasoka College lost to Ruwangi Wijekoon in the women’s singles.

Nulinda Lakshita lost to Sudara Samarasinghe.Dr. G. N. Lucas was another giant killer when he toppled the higher ranked Chathura Viskum. Last of the upsets for the day was when top ranked Buddhika Walagampola lost to Dharmasoka College schoolboy Malith Dilusha.
