Inter-school under-19 cricket:

Cambrians beat Peterites by seven wickets

Thilan Nimesh with a match bag of 9 for 125 and a solid knock of 81 runs by Shanuka Dulaj with eleven fours helped Prince of Wales' College to trounce more fancied and formidable St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya by seven wickets in their inter-school under-19 cricket match concluded at Moratuwa. Cambrians last win against Peterites was in 2002.

Peterites taking the first lease scored 152 runs with Lahiru Milantha top scoring with 60 with ten fours and Thilan Nimesh grabbed 4 for 28 and in reply homesters declared at 311 for 8 with Kusal Mendis 52 with ten fours. Skipper Tarindu Dilshan 47 with five fours and two sixes, Suchira Fernando contributing 43 runs with six fours.

In their second essay Peterites showed their prowess and bounced back to score 243 runs with Dushan Hemantha making the top score of 85 runs ably supported by Kavindu Tilleva who contributed 46 runs. Thilan Nimesh captured 5 for 97.

Set to make 85 runs for an outright victory Cambrians notched up the required score for the loss of three wickets with Kusal Mendis scoring 57 runs.

Pasindu hits unbeaten century

A timely struck unbeaten 100 by Ananda's Pasindu Madushan and two half centuries by Royal's Isuru Gunatileka (56 n/o) and Chamika Karunaratne (53) were the highlights of the drawn school cricket encounter between Royal and Ananda concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday.Ananda who were 87 for 2 overnight in reply to Royal's first innings total of 221 went on to make an impressive 323 for 6 declared with Pasindu Madushan top scoring with an unbeaten 100 made off 117 deliveries including nine fours and two sixes. He was ably supported by Ushan Gunatileka (74) who added 121 runs for the sixth wicket with the centurion Madushan.

Superb century by Sumanasiri

S. Thomas' retained the Mahadeva Sathasivam trophy for another year when their school cricket encounter against Wesley ended in an interesting draw at Campbell Park yesterday. The Thomians and the Wesleyites were out for identical scores 131 in the first innings. The Thomians going in for the second time were in a spot of bother placed at 123 for 9. But their last wicket pair Thilaksha Sumanasiri (93) facing 98 deliveries with six sixes and four fours and A. Cader who batted defiantly holding his end for one run added a match saving 59 runs.Wesley who had to get 182 runs to win were 162 for 8 in 46 overs at stumps. Scores.

Wickremasheela in innings win

Wickremasheela National School, Giriulla scored their third outright win for the season when they defeated U. B. Wanninayake Maha Vidyalaya, Galgamuwa by an innings and 42 run in their schools under 19 cricket tournament match played at Giriulla yesterday.

Highlight of the match was the fine all-round performance of Heshan Ranatunga who top scored with a fine 97 which included 12 fours and also captured a match bag of 7 for 31. The best bowling figure of the match went to off spinner Tharindu Abeysinghe who took 5 for 34 and 4 for 29 to return match figures of 9 for 63.

Wickremasheela National School: 250 all out in 51 overs (Heshan Ranatunga 97, Arosh Jayasinghe 48, Udara Weerasinghe 30, Tharindu Abeysinghe 34, S. Dinusha 4 for 65, S. Rukshan 3 for 72).

U. B. Wanninayake Maha Vidyalaya: 131 all out in 31 overs (M. Dilan 21, S. Lakshan 29, M. Pasan 19, Tharindu Abeysinghe 5 for 34, Heshan Ranatunga 3 for 15) and 77 all out in 32 overs (S. Rukshan 19, S. Lakshan 11, M. Rasanjana 11, Heshan Ranatunga 4 for 16, Tharindu Abeysinghe 4 for 29).


Gurukula bounce back

Gurukula Vidyalaya, Kelaniya after trailing by 80 runs in the first essay bounce back to beat Bandaranayake Maha Vidyalaya by five wickets in their inter-school under-19 cricket mach played at Colombo. Batting first Bandaranayake MV made 186 runs with Vinod Savindu scoring 40 runs and Roshan Anuruddha claiming 4 for 43. Gurukula in reply bowled out for a paltry 106 runs with Dananjaya Vithana capturing 6 for 45.

In their second essay Bandaranayke MV collapsed for a paltry 86 runs with Hashan Dumindu bagging 4 for 43 set to make 167 runs to register an outright win Gurukula notched up the requried score for the loss of five wickets with Shashin Dilranga scoring 51 runs.

Gurukula: 106 in 43 overs (Nisula Lakshan 21, Namal Pathum 25, Anupama Munasinghe 2 for 27, Dananjaya 6 for 45 and 170 for 5 – 35.4 overs (Nisula Lakshan 36, Shashin Dilranga 51, Namal Pathum 36, Dinidu Samodhava 3 for 75).

Bandaranayake MV: 186 in 78 overs (Vinod Savindu 40, Anjula Senanayake 33, Sahan Arachchige 22, Sandun Adhikari 30 n.o., Roshan Anuruddha 4 for 43, Nalin Perera 3 for 46, Namal Pathum 2 for 31 and 86 in 32.4 overs (Mihiran Imbulana 32, Anjana Nimanth 2 for 16, Hashan Dumindu 4 for 28).


Major honours for Sylvestrians

St. Sylvestor's College, Kandy recorded a first innings win over St. Anne's, Kurunegala in their cricket match concluded yesterday at Kurunegala.

St. Ann's: 1st innings 111 all out in 51 overs. (T. Vas 28, A. Jayaratne 15, I. Somananda 4 for 27, S. Dissanayake 3 for 15).

St. Sylvestor's: 1st innings all out 150 in 44 overs (F. Ahamed 23, V. Wijesinghe 49, H. Perera 19, Y. Dias 5 for 42, J. Perera 3 for 40).

St. Anne's: 2nd innings 224 all out in 93 overs (A. Jayaratne 57, M. Wickremage 51, T. Vas 24, W. Wijesinghe 2 for 54, I. Somananda 2 for 52, S. Dissanayake 2 for 49).

St. Sylvester's: 2nd innings 70 for 3 in 24 overs (F. Ahamed 18, H. Madushan 17, Y. Dias 1 for 6).
