Karzai accuses US of not fully co-operating with probe into Kandahar massacre

Afghan President Hamid Karzai accuses the US of not fully co-operating with a probe into the Kandahar massacre of 16 civilians by an American soldier. The US soldier accused of the Kandahar massacre is on his way to the US from Kuwait, where he was being held, and is expected to face a military tribunal there.

Non-stick spiders take delicate steps

Orb-weaving spiders avoid sticking to their own webs because of the way they move, say scientists. Naturalists first investigated the puzzle of how spiders move around their webs a century ago. The spiders' non-stick abilities were originally attributed to a special coating on their legs. But researchers in Costa Rica have now used modern imaging technology to record close-up footage that fully explains the ability.

Half of Indian homes have phones but no toilets

Nearly half of India's 1.2bn people do not have toilets at home, but more people own a mobile phone, according to the latest census data. Only 46.9% of the 246.6 million households have lavatories while 49.8% defecate in the open. The remaining 3.2% use public toilets.
