324 Avurudu fairs under Divi Neguma
The Economic Development Ministry will organise Avurudu fairs under
the Divi Neguma program in 324 Pradeshiya Sabha Divisions for the
Sinhala-Hindu New Year season.
The fairs will be open to the public from April 6 to 11 (9 am to 8
pm).
The objective of these fairs is to provide items essential for the
festive season such as clothes, textiles, fresh vegetables and fruits,
sweetmeats, spices and other items at concessionary prices under one
roof, thereby helping to boost rural industries.
The Samurdhi Commissioner-General's Department will coordinate the
Divi Neguma Avurudu fairs along with the Sri Lanka Samurdhi Authority,
Agrarian Development Department and Mahaweli Development Authority under
Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa's guidance in accordance
with the Mahinda Chinthana.
Kandy Selvavinayagar Kovil festival
The annual month-long Hindu Festival at the Kandy Selvavinayagar
Kovil, dedicated to Vinayagar began with the flag hoisting ceremony
27-3-2012 at 9.00 am. Processions and ceremonies are held daily in the
the precincts of the sacred Kovil.
The festival will last for 10 days during march and April. Devotees
in large numbers gather at the temple to make their offerings and invoke
blessings of the deities. Thirthotchava (water cutting ceremony will be
held on 05.04.2012 at 12.00 noon to end the proceedings of the annual
event.
Help save baby Dehan
Baby Dehan Akash Fernando, a six-month-old infant is suffering from a
critical liver disease (Sclerosity Cholangitis). A liver transplant
surgery has to be done at Global Hospitals, Chennai, India at the
earliest possible to save the child's life.
The cost of the surgery is around Rs.70-80 lakhs. In Sri Lanka baby
Dehan is treated by Paediatric Consultant Dr.(Mrs) Ishani Rodrigo.
Parents who are unable to meet the cost appeal for help.. Contact the

Reunion of senior Old Anandians
A get-together and reunion of the group from 1930s upto the mid 1980s
will be held on Sunday April 22 at the premises of the Organisation of
Professional Association (OPA) Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha, Colombo 7.

Religious ceremony in memory of former DIG
A Bana sermon and a Sanghika Dana (alms-giving) will be held on April
6 and 7 to mark the third months' remembrance of former DIG Ananda
Levangama at the Levangama residence.
An old boy of Ananda College, Colombo, Levangama, who joined the
Police as a sub inspector in 1970 held various positions in the Police
for 38 years. He worked in all the nine Provinces during this period and
played a vital role in re-establishment of civil administration in the
East.
He was a devout Buddhist who was instrumental in renovating many
temples in the East.
Janadhipathi Vidyala Mela
'Janadhipathi Vidyala Mela 2012', the educational exhibition would be
held in support of the Maharagama Janadhipathi Vidyalaya School
Development Association at the school premises from April 4 to 8 from
4.00 p.m.
