47th annual Kinross six-mile sea swim on April 8
SEA SWIM: The 47th Annual Sea Swim organised by Kinross will be held
on Sunday 8 April 2012. The swim starts at 7.30 am from opposite Kinross
and the competitors will swim upto a turning point located in the sea in
line with the Mount Lavinia Hotel and swim back to the finish point,
opposite the Club. The competitors are expected to finish the race
within 4 hours and 30 minutes, which is the official duration of the
swim.
So far, the club has received entries from 47 men and 5 women. The
entries received are from Seenigama Aquatic Club, Sri Lanka Army, Sri
Lanka Police, St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, Dharmasoka College,
Ambalangoda, Dolphin Aquatic Club, Ambalangoda and Kinross Swimming &
Life Saving Club. Among those entered from the Sri Lanka Army are the
last year’s winner of this meet, Capt. L. R. K. Peiris, who won the race
in a time of 2 hrs 22 mts and 19 secs and T. H. K. I. de Silva who
finished 2nd. Ishan Mark of St. Joseph’s College who was the 3rd last
year and who was also the youngest swimmer, has also entered for the
race this year. Last year’s winner in the womens’ race K.G.G.D.
Kaushalya who represented the Sri Lanka Air Force has not entered this
year.
There are 5 women (one each from Seenigama, S.L. Army and Dolphin
Aquatic Club Ambalangoda and two from Kinross) will compete in the race
this year. Winners will receive cash prizes in addition to the Trophies
and Medals.
‘Kinross Walk’ for raising funds for the development work of the Club
will take place the day before the 6-mile Swim, Saturday 7 April 2012.
