Kingswood – Dharmaraja :
‘One–dayer’ today will end school cricket
by S.M. Jiffrey ABDEEN -Kandy Sports Corr.
CRICKET: Curtains will come down on another school cricket season
when the favourites Dharmaraja College clash with Kingswood College in
their 24th limited-over encounter for the Winston Hoole Memorial Trophy
which will be played at the Pallekele International Stadium today
(Sunday April 1) at 9.30 am. The Kingswoodians sprang a surprise last
year by winning the limited-over clash after they lost the big match the
earlier week.
This year too the Kingswoodians lost the big match and it will be
left to be seen whether they could give a repeat performance in the
limited-over clash.
The hill country has been experiencing afternoon showers and the side
winning the toss could well decide on the course of the match assuming
that a full day’s play will not be possible. Rajans have a better
batting line up and they will depend a lot from the bats of Skipper
Viraj Karaputugala, Sasith Gunasekera, Nuwan Karunaratne, Chandimal de
Silva, Rameesh Ranasinghe, Deneth Lanka, Oshan Samarakoon, Lakshan de
Silva and Lochana Wijesiri.
The Kingswoodian will depend largely on Supun Bandara, Nisitha
Weerakoon, Chamara Unanboowe, Dananjaya Monerawila, Lakshan
Hettiarachchi, Tharaka Panabokke, Tharindu Liyanage, Mahes Lankatillake,
Randika Wijeratne and Dasitha Kandanaarachchi. A total of 23 matches
have been played in the series, the Kingswoodians are in the lead with
11 wins against 9 by the Rajans while 3 matches have ended in “no
decisions’ due to weather interference.
