All Menik Farm residents to be resettled by June

The displaced families who still remain at the Menik Farm welfare centre, Vavuniya will be resettled in their own places before the end of June, Mullaitivu District Secretariat sources said.

A discussion was held in connection with their resettlement with Minister of Resettlement Gunaratne Weerakoon during his recent visit to Menik Farm welfare centre, the sources said. Resettlement in certain areas is being delayed as demining has to be completed, the sources pointed out.

They said moves are under way to obtain the assistance of the teams which are engaged in demining in other districts to expedite the demining work here.

Plans are also afoot to obtain the assistance of NGOs for this process.

Accommodation at the Menik Farm welfare centre which were damaged due to the recent mini-cyclone have also been renovated, according to Resettlement Ministry sources.
