Katgully ventures into Sri Lanka

The company Agxintl is renowned for specialising in International Trade and Global Offshore Services, Logistics, Finance, Rish management and Market Intelligence.

Having branches in India and Australia, the company has diversified its scope from an international trade specialist to a total software solutions provider. Adding more credibility to their company's services, Agxintl recently partnered with Katgully Wines, Western Australia to bring the best of the world's wines for Sri Lankans.

Katgully offers nine varieties of premium table wines that have been produced from the Swan Valley in Western Australia.

The wines have been made to state-of-the-art viticultural techniques and the vineyard is a family-owned enterprise. Dr. Suresh Britto, Consulting Director of Wines at Agxintl said, “Wine has traditionally been the beverage of elite people but we want to give the chance to the middle and upper middle class to be able to afford the world's best wine.”

He said that there is always a demand for drinking the best beverages and in Sri Lanka, beer and arrack are very popular.

“The art of drinking wine is quickly gaining popularity as it is seen as an exclusive club which people want to join and we have a Kat Club where people who drink and comment on the wine are more than welcome,” he said.

Speaking to the Sunday Observer was Kevin Dundo, the Chairman of Katgully Wines and wine connoiseur. He said, “Since Sri Lankans have a preference for spicy food, we believe that our Portugese grape wine, the Verdelho will be a success here.” Dundo explained that countries such as France sell the best wine they make in their own countries and export the ones that are of substandard value.

However, in Western Australia the French, Spanish and Portugese wine grapes grow well and Katgully Wines embodies the natural flavour as though they come from their home-grown soil.

The Katgully wines come in red, rose and white flavours which encompass Sangiovese Merlot, Petit Verdot, Shiraz Verdelho and a rare combination of a Shiraz and a Merlot.

He explained about the name of the wine, Katgully and said, “The name KAT came about from the intials of the first names of my sons, Kirk, Adam and Tony that combines to form ‘katgully’ where gully means river,” he said.

He said that wines shouldn't be drunk after the meal but to be savoured during the meal to enjoy it.Anton Godfrey is the founder and CEO of AG International, Agxintl and AG Austasia Perth, Chennai.

The company was established in 1992 with Godfrey leading the company to be a world renowned overseas marketing company and sales organisation working with globally recognised brands. AGI represents the best corporates operating in South Asia, Austral Asia, Europe and East Africa.

He said, “The AGI Group has diversified its scope from an international trade specialist to a total software solutions provider. Our company strives to provide futuristic, innovative software solutions to various business areas such as Retail Banking, Human Resource Management and e-commerce.”
