Habits determine success

The extent of habits you practise identifies the person you are. Habits are unconscious actions. The good thing about good habits is that they enable us to develop new skills.

In other words, the more good habits we have the more it will help us to develop ourselves. We generally operate like machines. This is good to a certain extent but bad in some instances. However, we hardly have a choice.

From the time you get up in the morning till you get back to sleep, there are many routines actions you engage in, while some are done subconsciously or with minimum effort. Most of these daily actions are habit-driven.

Whether you are employed or unemployed, you must have good habits to improve your situation in life. This is because nobody can force you to excel. External forces can only help you achieve the minimum. If you want to do better you need to acquire and practice good habits.

Bad habits

You will be surprised the effects that bad habits have on an individual. Most often you perform these actions automatically or without much thought.

You'll first have to be conscious of these habits before you can change them. You must become aware of your habits. What are these habits really? How is this bad habit or collection of bad habits affecting you? What is the effect it is having on others? What do I gain if I change? Breaking inherent or acquired bad habits and natural tendencies demands will power to take control of your life for personal development.

The loss you suffer due to bad habits may be huge and if you asses this in a scientific manner you will be surprised at the result. You must make a decision straightaway, no matter what ,that you will change your habits for the better. You must convince yourself that making a change is worth the effort and it's only then that you will have the desire to change.

Replacing and taming bad habits

What you need to do now is form new habits. Replace bad habits with good ones. You develop good habits in the same manner that you've already developed bad ones; mainly by repetition. Realise the bad habits that you repeat and also find out why you do it.

There are many good and bad habits that have been entrenched into work life. Good habits qualify as productive, effective and conducive to one's ability to get work done.

Other less positive habits also exist. Negative behaviour can impact your performance, image and bands with others. Learning how to cultivate the skill to channel energy towards being positive rather than being negative is a tremendous talent to possess. Good habits are hard to acquire and bad habits are easy to develop. Meanwhile, good habits are hard to develop but easy to live with and bad habits are easy to develop but hard to live with. It is important to focus on changing one habit at a time.

Then, take consistent effort to break the habit and develop new ones. I suggest doing this process one step at a time, rather than trying to do it all at once will be helpful. Entrenched habits cannot be changed overnight. There will be times when you question whether it is worth the effort.

You might say to yourself that breaking bad habits is difficult. Get support from others, especially other people who want to make changes in their lives and read about people who have been successful in breaking bad habits.

Practice is the only way to internalise good habits

The key to developing good habits is to practise them if you practise a little bit, everyday, you will eventually internalise the skills you need and habits will become second nature.

Acquiring and developing habits is a life skill. Knowledge, skills and practice form competencies. Each habit is a competence and do you know what competence can do for you? Make collecting and internalizing good habits a habit!
