Japanese investors to launch business ventures here

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr. Rajitha
Senaratne said a large number of Japanese investors has expressed
willingness to launch business ventures in Sri Lanka.
Elaborating on his recent mission to Japan, the Minister said the
main purpose of the visit was to further strengthen trade with Japan in
fisheries and other business sectors. The Government has identified
Japan as an important country for Sri Lanka to engage in bilateral
trade.
The Sri Lanka-Japan trade,tourism and social activities joint
collaboration project was set up to promote bilateral trade between the
two countries. Dr. Senaratne was the Guest Speaker at the meeting. Over
100 Japanese investors participated.
It was organised by Consul General Sunil Gamage with the help of the
Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan and other organisations. “The investors were
impressed by my presentation about Sri Lanka", the Minister told the
Sunday Observer.
”During my visit I had an opportunity to discuss about Japanese
investments. I hope they will come to Sri Lanka soon to explore
investment possibilities”, he said.
Dr. Senaratne said he had met the billionaire investor, the “Tuna
king” who has 50 vessels. He was willing to invest in Sri Lanka’s
fisheries sector. He also held discussions with other fisheries and
tourism sector investors in Japan. Most of them would launch business
ventures in Sri Lanka soon, the Minister said.
