Carlton Super Sevens Rugby starts on May 26

RUGBY: Sri Lanka Insurance has stepped forward yet again to power a spectacular sporting event in the country “Carlton Super Sevens Rugby Tournament 2012” which aims at inculcating the habit of sport among Sri Lankan youth and to elevate Sri lankan rugby beyond the local shores. Carlton Super 7’s, a brian child of MP Namal Rajapaksa is organised for the fourth consecutive year by ‘Tharunyata Hetak’, the largest youth organisation in Sri Lanka together with its sports wing Carlton under the supervision of Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU). The Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) and the International Rugby Union.

Carlton 7’s will bring together youth from all corners of the country under-10 teams representing the ten provinces of the country - Uva Vipers, Southern Sharks, Northern Gladiators, Jaffna Challengers, Western Warriors, Eastern Eagles, North Central Typhoons, Sabaragamuwa Stallions and Central Kings. Each team will include 2 International Players, 2 A Grade Sri Lankan Club Players, 1 under-21 school player.

The tournament will be played in two sessions. Session I in Kandy Bogambara Grounds on the 26th and 27th of May and the 2nd session will be played on 2nd and 3rd June at Police Park Grounds, Colombo.

The main feature of the Tournament is that world renowned rugby players will playing together with local players, sharing their experiences and talent, which will no doubt contribute to moulding Sri Lankan rugby players to enter the International Rugby Arena.
