Royal in smashing 32-17 win over Science
Royal College scored a smashing 32 points (two goals, three tries and
one penalty to 17 points (two goals, one penalty) win over Science
College, Mount Lavinia in their Singer Segment One School Rugby Match
played at Mount Lavinia yesterday after leading 12-10 at the breather.
It was Science College who opened scoring in the fifth minute when
full back Prince Chamara put over a 25 metre penalty. Royal snatched the
lead when centre Damian Ratwatte smothered a clearance kick by a Science
College defender and sent out a pass to winger Nimshan Jayawardana who
scored by the corner flag. Jamaldeen missed the conversion.
Science College took the lead once again when winger Ashan Madusanka
made a break in mid-field and sliced through the Royal defence for over
50 metres to score under the posts. Chamara converted to make it 10-5.
Ten minutes before half time Royal fly half Arshad Jamaldeen made a
break in mid-field and slung out a pass to winger Ijaz Bohoran who
dashed through to fall over for an unconverted try by the corner flag
and Royal led 12-10 at 'Lemons'.
In the fifth minute after resumption Royal's full back Rimzi
Jamaldeen joined the line to score an unconverted try by the corner flag
to make it 17-10. Six minutes later Arshad Jmaldeen fired across a
25-metre penalty.
In the 15th minute Royal's winger Ijaz Bohoran scored by the corner
flag off a blind side move. Jamaldeen missed the conversion and Royal
led 25-10. Science College fought back and scored a brilliant try
through centre Richard Dharmapala which was converted by Chamara to
reduce the deficit 25-17. Two minutes before the final whistle. Royal
put the issue beyond doubt when skipper Arshad Jamaldeen scored a try by
the left corner flag and made a splendid conversion to make it 32-17 at
the final whistle.
