Unofficial land survey in Yala

The land survey inside Yala jungle to put up a camp site by unknown people has been done without my knowledge, Udeni Wickramasinghe, Secretary of Agrarian Services and Wildlife Conservation Ministry and Acting Director of Wildlife Conservation told the media.

He said that many applications have been received to build camp sites in the Yala National Park, but permission for only eight camp sites could be allowed whereby wild animals would not be harmed. It was reported that there are already three camp sites in the Park.

Environmental lawyer Jagath Gunawardane said that it is prohibited to provide lands in a National Park to provide service to the viewers or with an intention of starting a business venture which is in violation of clauses 5 and 6 and clause A of Flora and Fauna Act.
