SLAF men and women Beach Volleyball champs

BEACH VOLLEYBALL: The Sri Lanka Air Force men's and women's Beach Volleyball teams won the Defence Services Beach Volleyball Championship 2012 which was worked off for three days at the Negombo Beach Court Complex.

In the women's final, SLAF pair Geethika Gunawardena and Dinesha Prasadini beat Navy pair Sagarika Gunasinghe and YGN Sanjeewani 21-10 and 21-08.

In the men's final, SLAF pair Asanka Pradeep Kumara and Malintha Yapa beat the Asian Silver Medallists and National Champions Mahesh Perera and Wasantha Ratnapala in a keenly contested match. The final score read 20-22, 21-13 and 16-14 in favour of the SLAF pair.

In line with the international rules, two teams apiece from the Sri Lanka Army, Air Force and Navy participated in both men's and women's categories and the tournament was conducted according to double elimination system.

The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, Major General EP.De Z. Abeysekera (USP), graced the event as the Chief Guest.
