Carelessness costs lives of two foreign women

Two foreign women lost their lives last week - one due to drowning
and the other being knocked down by a moving train owing to their
carelessness. Police have warned tourists to take utmost care while
swimming in the rough seas as several cases of drowning have been
reported in the recent past, police said.
According to Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana a foreign woman
tourist drowned in the rough seas off the Induruwa southern coast while
swimming along with her friends on Friday around 5.30.pm.
The woman, however, was unable to swim back to the shore when a rough
tidal wave swept her into the deep sea. The deceased was identified as
32-year-old Pederino Victori, a Russian woman who had checked in to a
beach hotel along with a group of Russian and other foreign tourists.
The decease's body was taken to the Karapitiya Hospital for an
autopsy. Kosgoda police are conducting investigations.
Meanwhile, a woman who had attempted to cross the railway track at
Kollupitiya to get to the beach was knocked down by a moving train bound
for Ratmalana from Polgahawela on Friday. The deceased was identified as
a 45-year old Chinese woman, Song Meici. Her body is now lying at the
Colombo National Hospital morgue. Kollupitiya police are conducting
investigations.
