Misappropriation of State vehicle: suspect remanded

A former Working Director of the State Plantation Corporation was arrested by the Special Crime Information Bureau (SCIB) of the Kurunegala police station last week in connection with the misappropriation of a State vehicle of the Corporation. The suspect was produced in Courts and has been remanded until investigations are completed, Police Media Spokesman, SSP Ajith Rohana told the Sunday Observer.

It was revealed that the suspect, after obtaining approval for the repair of two jeeps, had sent only one jeep to a local garage for repairs while using the other for his private work. Even after leaving office as Working Director, the suspect had failed to return the jeep to the Corporation. “Misappropriating State property is a serious offence under the Penal Code and the police would investigate the matter further,” he said.
