Newton Fernando – keen on continuing with athletics

Seventy five year-old former Chambrian and former Sri Lanka Army veteran athlete Newton Fernando showed that he had not lost touch with sports when he won three Gold Medals at the 26th Sri Lanka Masters Athletic Championship Meet held at the Bogambara Stadium in May this year.

Then on July 28 and 29, he won one Gold and two Silver Medels at the Masters Meet held at the Sugathadasa Stadium. His events were: Discus Throw, Shot Put and Hammer Throw.

Newton Fernando siad that he intends to continue with athletics for some more years.

At the Prince of Wales Colours Awards Ceremony, he had the honour of being the guest-of-honour.
