Two suspected Lankan boats marooned near Indonesia
Two boats carrying suspected Sri Lankan illegal
immigrants have been towed near the Mentavi Islands in Indonesia as
they were marooned for one week without fuel. The External Affairs
Ministry has called upon the Lankan head of mission in Jakarta to
inquire about the reports of the two boats. It is reported that one
of the boats had demanded 2,000 litres of diesel to proceed to
Christmas Island, their final destination.

Navy nabs 146 Australia bound illegal immigrants
The Sri Lanka Navy yesterday apprehended another
two boats carrying 146 would-be illegal immigrants bound for
Australia in the seas east of Trincomalee, Navy spokesman Commander
Kosala Warnakulasuriya told the Sunday Observer. “The apprehended
boats were later taken to Trincomalee and the people were handed
over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further
investigations”,

Lovelorn soldier stabs girlfriend, attempts suicide

Kekirawa area had any inkling of the love affair that was blossoming
between a young schoolgirl and a youth in the same village. Nobody
