Bad oil stocks seized in Wattala

Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) officials who raided a store in Wattala seized 5,000 litres of vegetable oil which were unfit for consumption, Authority sources said. The raid was conducted on a directive by Co-operative and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando. The oil consignment had been collected from Pettah, a Co-operative and Internal Trade Ministry official said.

The consignments were seized when they were being prepared to be released to the market, the sources said. There were 1,520 packets, each containing three litres of oil, the official noted.

Legal action will be taken against the person who is conducting this illegal business, he said.
