Flame in concert

Flame, the folk group was first recognised in 1994 when they won the Folk Band of the Year at the prestigious 'Observer Golden Clef Awards'. International recognition for the band came from the German Airline Lufthansa when they signed them up to play at corporate events in Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi.

'The Journey' will be Flame's first concert which will be held on November 11 at the Bishop's College Auditorium. The concert, according to the members of Flame will be exclusive, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their contribution to the music industry.

The concert will feature covers of which Flames' repertoire is extremely wide. All former members of Flame will join the present members to give their fans a one-of-a-kind concert.

 


A Three Generation Tale

Sirini Peries' A Three Generation Tale was launched recently as a Stamford Lake publication. It is a sequel to her earlier book A Giggle of Aunts, published in 2004. The book is available at Lake House Bookshop and other leading bookshops.

Nari Burathi goes to New Town Hall

Sarath Kothalawala's Nari Burathi will be staged at the New Town Hall, Colombo 7 on November 10 at 3.30 p.m. and 6.45 p.m. The cast includes Sarath Kothalawala, Kumara Thirimadura, Pubudu Chathuranga, Mihira Sirithilaka, Sarath Chandrasiri, Hemantha Iriyagama, Chinthaka Peiris, Janaka Ranasinghe and Wajira Kodithuwakku.

 

 


Pragnave Diyaniya – Ayesha

S. Chandrasiri Dassanayake's latest book Pragnave Diyaniya – Ayesha was launched recently in Colombo as a Dayawansa Jayakody publication.

Dassanayake is the author of several other books such as Allen Saha Ice Devivaru, Atheethayata Giya Allen, Mantharakariyage Sirasa, Asiki Gothrikayange Ran Pilimaya, Arunodaye Rejina, Cleopatra, Meedume Minissu, Allen saha Pujaneeya Pushpaya and Ethdala Daruva.

Pragnave Diyaniya – Ayesha is the Sinhala translation of H. Rider Haggard's popular book Wisdom's Daughter.


Governance, Heritage and Sustainability

Deshamanya K H J Wijayadasa (former Secretary to Prime Minister and Secretary to the President 1984 to 1994) will launch his latest English publication Governance, Heritage and Sustainability as a Sarasavi publication shortly. Wijayadasa through his book has opened the doors for present and future scholars to study the three much debated and extremely fascinating fields of study. The contents are not theoretical expositions but realistic and critical analyses of issues pertaining to Sri Lanka.


The Prophecy

Ananda Liyanage's English novel The Prophecy will be launched at the National Library and Documentation Board Auditorium, Colombo 7 on November 8 at 4 pm.

The keynote address will be delivered by Capt. Elmo Jayawardena. The Prophecy is a Foremost Books publication.


Abhirahas Thibbathaya

Thilaka Kudahetti's latest book Abhirahas Thibbathaya was launched in Colombo recently as a Dayawansa Jayakody publication.

Abhirahas Thibbathaya is the Sinhala translation of M. MacDonald Bayne's Beyond the Himalayas.
