Hambantota businessmen visit UK
A 15-member delegation from the Hambantota District Chamber of
Commerce on its recent visit to the UK had an interactive dialogue with
sections of the Sri Lankan community here to build trade and commercial
links and explore technology transfer.
At a reception held at the Sri Lanka High Commission in London the
delegates from Hambantota whose commercial interests range from textiles
and the dairy industry to machinery and tyre manufacture, discussed with
the UK-based Sri Lankans interested in investment and setting up
projects in Sri Lanka possibilities of joining hands to further economic
development.
Also present on the occasion were representatives of Gateway Asia
which is a partner of the West London Chamber of Commerce. Interest was
shown in reaching a Memorandum of Understanding between Gateway Asia and
the Hambantota Chamber of Commerce in a variety of areas including
tourism development, women's entrepreneurial advancement and skills
development for youth.
High Commissioner Dr Chris Nonis spoke of the huge potential of the
Hambantota district particularly as a result of the new port, airport
and other infrastructure developments that would help substantially to
expand bilateral links.Azmi Thassim , the leader of the Hambantota
delegation, Jayampathi Perera, British Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and
Ash Varma, Director Gateway Asia also addressed the gathering.
