Rise in kidney diseases

Kidney diseases are on the increase in Moneragala district due to certain chemicals used in cane and plantain cultivations which were started in large scales in the district.

Many people have died and some are subject to the disease. Chairperson of the Organisation for Women in Uva Wellassa, Ms. K.P. Somalatha revealed this matter at a media conference held at its Moneragala district office.

She said various agricultural companies use different chemicals in large scales and as a result day by day the kidney patients are increasing in the district.
