Dharmaraja win Kids and Junior athletic titles

ATHLETICS: Dharmaraja College won both the Kids and Junior titles while Nugawela MMV won the Kids and Mahamaya Girls College won the Junior Girls titles at the athletic meet held last Sunday at the Bogambara grounds, Kandy.

In the events for boys, Dharmaraja collected 95 points to take top place. In second place was Vidyartha with 56 points and third was St. Sylvester’s College with 54 points.

Among the Kids Dharmaraja College was once again placed first with 57 points with St. Sylvester’s in second place with 44 points and Gateway College, Kandy came third with 37 points.

In the events for girls (Juniors) Mahamaya Girls College with 147 points came first while Girls High School, Kandy were second with 88 points and Kandy Model School with 45 points came third. In the category for kids (girls) Nugawela MMV with 48 points came first while Galagedara MV with 45 points were second and President Model School with 40 points were placed third.

There were 10 meet records at the meet. Those who established records were: (1) S.M.K.D. Dissanayaka (Chandananda Buddhist School) u.14 100 metres in 12.4 secs. (Previous record by B.M. Sumanadasa of Ranabima College with 12.5 seconds in 2005.

(2) A.M.D.C. Bandara (Deerananda Vidyalaya, Pilimatalawa, High Jump u.15 with 1.65 metres (Previous record – S.L.K. Wijekoon of Deerananda Vidyalaya, Pilimatalawa in 2005).


Two records – B.M.H.M. Siriwardena of Girls High School, Kandy won two events – 100 metres and 200 metres in record timmings – 100 metres in 13.0 secs and 200 metres in 27.4 secs in the under-15 age group.

Lakmini Kumari of Galagedara MV – record in 100 metres girls under-12 in 14.4 secs. a new record. Also a record in 80 metres hurdles in 17.2 secs.


 

(3) N.M.N. Lakmini Kumari of Galagedara MV u.12 100 metres (girls) 14.4 secs. (Previous rerecord: Dinithi Jayasekara 14.5 secs. of Mahamaya Girls in 2003.

(4) N.M.N. Lakmini Kumari of Galagedara MV u.12 80 metres Hurdles (girls) in 17.2 secs. (Previous record by K.K. Alahakoon of Berrewaerts College, Ampitiya with 17.7 secs.

(5) Steffna Fernando of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy u.11 Long Jump (girls) 3.66 metres. (Previous record: D.V. Amarasekara of Danture M.V. - 3.29 metres in 2007.

(6) J.P.G.T.S. Jayasinghe of Galagedara MV u.11 100 metres 15.1 secs. (Previous record: B. Samarasinghe of Mahamaya Girls College in 15.4 secs. in 2005.

(7) B.G.W.M. Sriyananda of Kandy Model School u.15 Discuss Throw (girls) distance 23.45 metres. (Previous record: H.T.L.K. Liyanage of Berrewaerts College Ampitiya in 2007. Distance 22.42 metres.

(8) B.M.H.M. Siriwardena of Girl’s High School, Kandy u.15 100 metres (girls) in 13 secs. (Previous record: 13.6 secs. by P. Wickramasinghe of Mahamaya Girls College 2005.

(9) B.M.H.M. Siriwardena of Girl’s High School, Kandy u.15 200 metres in 27.4 secs. Previous records: 27.5 sec. by P. Wickramasinghe in 2007.

(10) The u.15 4x100 Relay team: Dharmaraja College – Time 48.2 secs. (Previous record: St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota 48.3 secs. in 2010.

Boys – L.M. Werellagama, St. Anthony’s, Katugastota.

Girls – M.G.S.N. Gunawardena -Seetha Devi, Kandy
Boys – B.A.M.T.T. Abeysinghe, Kandy Model School and A.H.J. Wickramasiri Kingswood College, Kandy.

[Under 14]

Girls – Nadeesha Dissanayake, Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy.
Boys – Hashan Wijenayake, Gateway College, Kandy.

[Under 15]

Girls – B.M.H.H. Siriwardena – Girls High School, Kandy.
Boys – H.A.M.Azardeen, St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy.

The chief guest on the opening day was Lohan Ratwatte, MP for Kandy who is also the President of Kandy District Sports Development Foundation. Sarath Ekanayake – the Chief Minister, Central Province was the chief guest on the final day.
