Luxury apartments in Jaffna

Jaffna youth will benefit from the region's first luxury apartment complex, Tulasi Mahal which is expected to be completed by end October 2013.

The developers of the complex, Peninsular Property Developers (Pte) Ltd, a subsidiary of Capital Developers (Pvt) Ltd is training 100 youth in the peninsular in masonry, carpentry and bar bending skills to engage them in the construction of the first luxury apartment project.


Dulux launches shopping website

AkzoNobel Paints Lanka, makers of Dulux paints launched its shopping site www.duluxshop.lk last week.

A spokesman for AkzoNobel said, "The company a global fortune 500 company is one of the world's largest paint and coating manufacturer and this is the first e-commerce platform to sell paints in Sri Lanka."

"This site will facilitate customers to get a better understanding of the products they wish to buy. User friendly features and help tips in the site gives a new experience to customers.

This step in the digital world will establish its leadership in the paint category and provide customers better experience and convenience," he said.


Janora to produce fruit based products

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka signed an agreement with Janora Food Industries (Pvt) Ltd recently to produce fruit juice, fruit pulp, cut fruits, fresh cow milk and many other grain-based products in natural condition.

The company will produce sterilised and pasteurised milk. The company will also start the production of milk -related products such as yoghurt, flavoured milk and milk sweets in the second phase of the venture.

The products manufactured will be for the local market and exports to the European market will commence in the second stage of the project.This is an investment of Rs.100 mn.


Seylan Bank 2011 Annual Report bags awards

The Seylan Bank 2011 Annual Report (‘North Bound’) was awarded a Gold and Bronze medal at the ARC Awards recently. The Gold award was won for non-traditional Annual Reports in the Banking and Finance services: Asia/South Pacific Category. The Bronze medal was awarded for its written text in that same category.

The Bank’s 2011 Annual Report also claimed a Silver Award at the LACP – Vision Awards in July this year.

 


Admo builds Lanka Ashok Leyland yard

The Admo projects division of Vinseth Engineering (Pvt) Ltd designed and constructed a 80,000 square foot yard for Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC. The building will be used for pre-delivery vehicle parking. The project costing Rs 70 m was completed in six months. Chairman Vineth Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, Bede Cooray handed over the documents to CEO of Lanka Ashok Leyland Umesh Gautham on the occasion.

Arpico wins 'Best Stall' award

Arpico won the 'The Best Stall of the Exhibition' award at the Construction Expo 2012.

3M conducts workshops on safety

3M Sri Lanka and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) conducted workshops during the National Safety Week to develop safety solutions for industries.

Professional Services Engineer, 3M Sri Lanka, Shayan Appuhamy was joined by industry expert Vinay Pathak from 3M India to conduct the workshops on eye protection for NIOSH to educate industries and the public about occupational safety and health in the workplace, proper solutions and promoting a safety culture in Sri Lanka.


Walkers Tours go for ‘Green Tours'

A carbon neutral fleet was launched by Walkers Tours, the winner of the ‘Best Inbound Tour Operator’ for the second consecutive year at the Sri Lanka Tourism Awards 2011. It handles a diverse mix of clients from all parts of the globe.

A spokesman for Walkers Tours said, “We take pride in being a leader in the leisure industry and this initiative is testament to this fact.

The ‘Walkers Green’ initiative promotes sustainable tourism in line with the John Keells Leisure Group pledge, 'I Will Be Green'.”


Spa Ceylon wins award

Spa Ceylon received the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2012.

“Today we are proud to recognise Spa Ceylon for earning exceptional traveller ratings over the past year. With a rating of 4.5, Spa Ceylon has earned a place among the best,” said President, TripAdvisor for Business, Christine Petersen.

Spa Ceylon has also been nominated for the AsiaSpa Crystal Awards 2012 under the 'Natural Product Range of the Year’ category.

“This award from TripAdvisor which has become one of the world’s largest travel sites by recognising the power of traveller feedback is indeed a feather in the cap of Spa Ceylon,” a spokesman for Spa Ceylon said.
 


Union Bank wins award
