Mahela and Michael hit centuries in MCA tourney

Left handers Mahela Udawatte (148 n.o) and Michael Vandort (103) cracked centuries for their teams MAS Unichela and John Keells respectively in the Singer sponsored Mercantile 'A' division cricket tournament played at the Colts and Thurstan College grounds yesterday.

MAS Unichela in their match against Seylan Bank mustered an impressive 283 for 7 in their 50 overs with Udawatte and Chamara Silva 82 adding 157 for the fourth wicket. Udawatte faced 157 deliveries and struck seven sixes and five fours while Chamara Silva utilised 87 deliveries with five fours and three sixes to fashion their teams win.

In another match between John Keells and Hatton National Bank, despite a fighting 103 by former Test Opener Michael Vandort, John Keells lost by one run. HNB in pursuit of 227 runs to win was helped by a fine 78 by Saman Jayantha as the bankers reached the required runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Helped by a whirlwind 88 by Andy Solomons off 62 deliveries with eight fours and four sixes.

MAS Active took 25.5 overs losing only three wickets to surpass ETI's 202 at the Moratuwa Stadium. Sachitra Senanayake (5 for 33) and Kaushal Lokuarachchie were the pick of the bowlers for MAS Active.

At. Colts grounds Havelock Park. MAS Unichela beat Seylan Bank by 85 runs.

MAS Unichela: 283 for 7 in 50 overs (Mahela Udawatte 148 n.o, Chamara Silva 82, Tharaka Kottehewa 3 for 79.

Seylan Bank: 198 in 46.5 overs (Shehan Jayasuriya 50, Lasith Fernando 37, Ian Daniel 37, Sohan Boralessa 3 for 26, Ramith Rambukwella 2 for 42, Dilruwan Perera 2 for 32).

At. Moratuwa Stadium: MAS Active beat ETI by 7 wickets.

Edirisinghe Trust Investments 202 in 49.4 overs (Harsha Cooray 53, Damith Mapatuna 32, Amal Athulathmudali 30, Roshan Laksiri 27 n.o, D.K.Ranaweera 26, Sachithra Senanayake 5 for 33, Kaushal Lokuarachchie 2 for 43.

MAS Active 203 for 3 in 25.5 overs (Andy Solomons 88, T.M.Sampath 74 n.o, Dilshan Munaweera 30).

At.Thurstan College grounds, Stanley Wijesundera, Mawatha. Colombo 7. HNB beat John Keells by 1 run.

John Keells 226 for 9 in 50 overs (Michael Vandort 103, Roshen Silva 29, Bhanuka Rajapakse 22, Janaka Gunaratne 34, Kosala Kulasekera 3 for 39, Vimukthi Perera 3 for 49, Ranil Dammika 2 for 37).

HNB: 227 for 9 in 50 overs (Hashan Goonetileka 25, Saman Jayantha 78, Nimesh Perera 27, Indika de Saram 2 for 45, Janaka Gunaratne 2 for 32, Milinda Siriwardene 3 for 34).
