Mahinda Chintana – the ultimate goal to rebuild the nation
by Uditha Kumarasinghe
Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa told Parliament
yesterday that the people on several occasions have fully endorsed the
‘Mahinda Chintana’ policy which is an entirely homegrown concept
introduced by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to rebuild the nation.
Winding up the debate on the votes of his Ministry, Minister
Rajapaksa said the ultimate goal of the President and the Government is
to produce a nation that will consume rice daily in their three meals.
The intention of the Government is to bring back the ancient prosperity
and glory to the country.
The Government will give priority to build up dignity and self
confidence among the people.
Minister Rajapaksa said the Government does not want to leave out
even a single family. The policy of the President is to economically
empower each person and family. The Budget 2013 has made financial
allocations to realise this goal.
It is not the intention of the President to merely give priority to
material development. His ultimate goal is to create a nation with high
moral values who will respect their parents and elders.
He said some perceived the Divineguma with malice. The Minister asked
them to observe the Divineguma with a proper understanding. The prime
objective of the Divineguma is to uplift the living conditions of every
individual and family.
The Government intends to transform this program into a national
movement. Accordingly a decision was taken by the Ministry to provide a
packet of seeds to five million families in the country free of charge.
The Minister questioned whether the Opposition members cannot notice
the transformation in the villages regarding the development of
infrastructure facilities after 2005.
He said there is no need to refer Central Bank reports to view the
significant development in villages countrywide.
He urged the Opposition members to visit the villages and witness the
developments taking place. If we look at a person or a family, it is
obvious that they have been economically empowered. Minister Rajapaksa
called upon all Parliamentarians to work collectively to develop the
country.
He appreciated the leadership and assistance given by the President
to the Economic Development Ministry to carry out its task for the
socio-economic development of the people.
