I complained about Trillium case to CID, says Justice Tilakawardena
in her evidence
Justice Shirani Thilakawardena in her evidence had said that after
the Supreme Court decision dated May 6, 2010 in Fundamental Rights Case
No. 262/09, a party to the case made a request that the case be heard
before a bench of five judges. She said that the three-judge bench
including herself referred the matter to the Chief Justice under Section
132 of the Constitution.
The CJ instead heard the case herself sitting with two other judges,
Thilakawardena said.
The committee treated Justice Shirani Thilakawardena's evidence as
credible and truthful and took serious notice of Chief Justice Shirani
Bandaranayake purchasing a house from the Trillium Housing Scheme in her
sister's and brother-in-law's names, when the Supreme Court had ordered
no Trillium residences be alienated without its express provision.
In this connection Trillium Residences Executive Director Janaka
Ratnayake's evidence is important. Ratnayake said that a discount of Rs.
1.6m was given as the purchaser was a Judge of the Supreme Court. Mrs.
Thilakawardena in her evidence said that Janaka Ratnayake had committed
a serious act of misdemeanour and though she complained to the CID it
had no effect.
