Relief for flood-affected farmers

The Government will provide relief to farmers who have been affected by floods in several districts.

Agrarian Services Ministry sources said farmers affected by floods would receive land for cultivation and fertiliser free.

The Government has estimated that over 78,559 hectares of paddy land have been completely destroyed and 158 mini irrigation tanks in 11 districts extensively damaged by the floods affecting the island.

According to the sources, 313,000 bushels of seed paddy and 25,500 metric tons of fertiliser will be distributed among the flood-affected farmers.

The Ministry has said repairing of damaged irrigation tanks has already commenced.
