Cardiac patient appeals for help
Twenty-seven-year-old D.C.J. Fernando has recurrent palpitations due
to Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Ventricular Tachycardia.
Consultant Cardiologist of the National Hospital Dr. Asunga Dunuwille
recommends early percutaneous surgical Cardiac RF ablation. The
procedure could be performed at Asiri Surgical Hospital.
The approximate cost is Rs. 225,000 (two hundred and twenty five
thousand rupees and his mother appeals to the generous public to help
them out in this worthy cause.

Eighty-three graduate chemists pass out
A further 83 Graduate Chemists have passed out from the Institute of
Chemistry Ceylon bringing the overall total produced by the College of
Chemical Sciences over the past 30 years to over 900. The Institute thus
continues since 1996, to be the largest single producer of Graduate
Chemists in Sri Lanka now producing over 40 percent of all the special
degree level Graduate Chemists in Sri Lanka.
This includes several students who are concurrently following degree
level courses within the Sri Lankan University system in various fields
but who have passed out as Graduate Chemists from the College much
earlier than they could from the Universities. Graduate Chemists
continue to be in high demand and have secured employment and or
register for post-graduate degrees both locally and globally.
The Graduate Chemists would be conferred their Graduate Chemist
status at the ninth convocation of the College at the Waters Edge on
Thursday, February 21 with Consultant Agronomist to the World Bank, FAO
and IFAD and President of the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka
Dr Kingsley de Alwis delivering the Convocation Address as Chief Guest.
Dr de Alwis, a Special Degree Graduate in Chemistry from the
University of Ceylon holds a Doctorate in Soil Sciences from the
University of Alberta in Canada has had an extensive record of service
in Sri Lanka and internationally. He was recently elected
President-elect of the Science Council of Asia.
Meelad-un-Nabi celebrations 2013
The Da'wa and religious committee of the Moor's Islamic Cultural Home
has organised the annual Hifl, calligraphy and oratorical contest in
connection with the Meeland-un-Nabi celebrations this year too.
The competitions are as follows.
Calligraphy and Hifl on Saturday, January 19, 2013, oratory on
Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Pasha Villa, 115, Dematagoda Road, Colombo

The closing date for applications for the contest is Monday, January
7, 2013.
Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk on "What is it that dies?" delivered by the
late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at Anula Nursery
School Hall, High Level Road, Colombo 6 today at 9.45 a.m.
It is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.
Sugeetha Swara Dehena on Jan 5
Sugeetha Swara Dehena, a musical extravaganza with renderings by Dr.
Victor Ratnayake, Visharada Amarasiri Peiris and Visharada Deepika
Priyadarshani will be held on January 5 at 6.30 pm at the Bishop's
College auditorium. It is organised by the '78-'82 B.Com Alumni
Association of the Kelaniya University.
