Improving service delivery is the key in generating substantial
revenue from the business boom in the country.A special effort is
required to improve the quality of service and move the country towards
an income-generating service sector which in turn will serve the tourism
industry.
This will have several spin off benefits such as improving the level
and quality of service across the board. In today's world, service is as
an important a product as a brand, in fact the quality of service can be
and should be a brand by itself, Lassana Flora Chairman and Managing
Director Dr. Lasantha Malavige told Sunday Observer Business.
With the country’s strategic location and the development taking
place, it stands to gain large amounts of revenue if the service
delivery aspect is brought up to required levels. The overall
improvement in the quality of service will benefit every other industry
in the country.
Lassana Flora, one of the first florists in South Asia to have
obtained the ISO 9001; 2008 certification, will focus on export markets
with emphasis on the Middle Eastern countries and Japan initially.
“We sell locally produced flowers at our six outlets and plans are
under way to expand our operations by opening more outlets which will
generate skilled employment opportunities.
The collection centre at Nuwara Eliya supports small growers while
minimising wastage thus ensuring freshness of the flowers. The country
is blessed with the right soil conditions to make this a major export
industry. Since resources such as technical knowledge, man power and
weather fuels growth, it is essential to capitalise on these factors to
become a global player in the foliage industry, he said. The company has
made investments on continuously training its 130 employees and also
received a Gold award as the Best Brand in the SME category at the
recently held SLIM awards ceremony.
