Wayamba celebrates Independence Day

The business community and several philanthropists of the Kurunegala district will donate school stationery and uniform material to 500 needy schoolchildren to mark the Independence Day tomorrow. Beneficiaries have been selected from remote primary schools in Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts.

Organiser M.A. Jayasena told the Sunday Observer that two million rupees has been allocated for this purpose. Bodhi poojas and pinkamas will be held in 100 Buddhist temples in the province to invoke blessings on President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the government, war-heroes and all Sri Lankans to ensure a better future for them. Wayamba Ministry of Education will launch a tree planting campaign to mark the occasion.
