Death of Sampath Bandara’s father

Former Kingswood College, Kandy hockey captain K.R. Attanayake (80) passed away in Kandy yesterday after a brief illness. A versatile sportsman during his day, Attanayake led his school’s hockey team in 1951 and also played football and cricket during his school career.

The body lies at his residence at Ambekka Street, Handessa, close to the famous Ambekka Dewalaya in Kandy. The funeral will take place at Kossinna crematorium, Geliyoya tomorrow (4).His only son Sampath Bandara Attanayake, a senior sports journalist currently attached to ANCL’s Kreeda Sports Magazine, earlier served as Assistant Sports Editor of Dinamina.
