Kishu to contest AASL vice presidency
Managing Director of Chevron Lubricants Kishu Gomes will contest for
a post of Vice President at the forthcoming Athletic Association of Sri
Lanka (AASL) to be held later this month. At the request of key stake
holders, Gomes last week handed over nominations to contest the AASL
elections. A versatile sportsman turned top business leader, Gomes had
been a champion athlete during his school career, winning the National
Schools 110 m hurdles title. He won the Colombo district 110m hurdles
championship for four consecutive years and Colombo district over-19
100m title.
During late 80s and early 90s, Gomes served in the committee of the
Track Masters Sports Club under Minister S. B Dissanayake, along with
Sunil Gunawardena, Badra Gunawardena, Sunil Jayaweera and Commander H U
Silva.Gomes is still into competitive athletics and takes part at the
annual company sport meet. He has been adjudged the best athlete a few
times.
He served on the Committee of the Colombo SAAF Games during late 80s
under the Chairmanship of Manilal FernandoHe was involved in organising
the Olympic Day run in Sri Lanka a few times. He is extremely passionate
about sports - representing the two organisations Coke and Caltex.
Kishu has supported many sports like cricket, athletics, motor
sports, boxing, and rugby for 13 years that helped the game to reach the
level it has acquired today. Out of all sports, Kishu’s first love is
athletics given his own background. As a well known business leader, he
boasts of many accolades and awards.
