EU-funded project bears fruit
Convenience Foods (Lanka) PLC (CFL), a subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits
Ltd was the runner-up in the Small Scale Category at the ACCA
Sustainability Reporting Awards at the Cinnamon Grand recently.
The report was compiled by SWITCH-Asia Food and Beverage team,
trained by CII India, the accredited training partner of Global
Reporting Initiative (GRI) of the Netherlands.
"The SWITCH-Asia F and B program helped CFL by providing advice in
implementing sustainable consumption and production methods and in
obtaining ISO certifications during the past four years. While ensuring
cleaner production, efforts on systematic gathering of data on resource
consumption have paved the path for this achievement," a spokesman for
the company said.
"CFL has received ISO 22000:2005 certification and is in the process
of receiving ISO 14001:2004," said Project Director Prema Cooray.
"Convenience Food (Lanka) being honoured as a sustainable business
model is a great achievement for us as we could now see the EU-funded
project bearing fruit and recognised as a sustainable clean production
company," he said.
The SWITCH-Asia F and B team was partnered by IVAM Uva BV (The
Netherlands), CII (India), Industrial Technology Institute (ITI),
Industrial Services Bureau (ISB) and Industrial Development Board (IDB).
The project was launched by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
