Amarapadma wins Pin Fernando golf tourney

M. Amarapadma stamped his class by winning Fin Fernando golf championship for the month of February 2013 worked off at the Royal Colombo Golf Club golf course in Colombo on Saturday. The highlight of Amarapadma's four round win was when he shot a brilliant 2 under par in the fourth round to end up with 69 and finish off with a total of 281 which was three shots ahead of the runners-up B.A. Rohana who had a total of 284.

When the competition begun it was that seasoned campaigner M. Arumugam who was in the lead with 70 with 1 under par. Amarapadma had 71. But as the championship gained momentum Amarapadma picked up by getting 72 against 74 by Arumugam and B.A. Rohana put himself in getting 71 in the second round. It was in the third and fourth rounds that Amarapadma got into his real stride by getting 69 in both to finish ahead of the others. It was a well truly good performance.Amarapadma in his victory march had scores of 71, 72, 69 and 69. The runner-up B.A. Rohan had scores of 73, 71, 72, 68.

Vijitha Bandara who did well in the January round finished sixth with 295 and M. Ranga finished fifth with 292 Binupa Wijesinghe who won the Donald Steel Championship at at Victoria two weeks ago and on a holiday here was a way down below at 13th place getting 314.

Two teenagers did well with Sachin de Silva getting 311 and finishing 11th place. Chalitha Pushpika who won the Gold Division at the Sri Lanka Junior Open Championship last month ended a good 9th place with 308.
