Battle of the Golds ends in tame draw

The 63rd "Battle of the Golds" between Prince of Wales College and St. Sebestians College ended in a tame draw at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa yesterday.

Sebs resumed the day two without loss and their two openers Avishka Fernando and Gayan Silva gave them a reasonable start and however at the sure of 28 Gayan Silva departed. Then the skipper Anushka Perera joined Avishka and brought the score to 72 and the skipper was cleaned bowled by Ravindu Sasanka. Then Sangeeth Cooray joined the opener and saw the score board moving but at 110 the opener Aviska got out for a well compiled 49 runs which included six fours. Then Sangeeth Cooray was removed when he was 40 and the wickets tumble at regular intervals.

Cooray had four fours in his 40 runs and there were two good partnerships of 44 runs by Avishka and Anushka for the second wicket and 38 runs for the third wicket by Avishka and Cooray.

Thilan Nimesh had a fine spell of 4 for 49 while Devaka Dabare too had a good spell of bowling with 3 for 42 to restrict formidable Sebs for 180 runs giving them a lead of eight runs.

In their second essay at the close Cambrian were 135 for 5 with Kusal Mendis 41 with three fours and two sixes and Suchira Fernando 35 and associating a first wicket partnership of 58 runs. Hasitha Lanka and Ashen Mendis contributed 21 and 23 runs respectively. Pramesh Fernando (2 for 22) and Anushka Perera (2 for 16) bowled best for the Sebs.
