No decision at Asgiriya
S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen- Kandy Sports Cor.
Rain severely interfered with the 55 'Battle of Babes' between St.
Sylvesters College, Kandy and Vidyartha College which ended in a 'no
decision' at the Asgiriya Stadium Kandy yesterday. This match was played
for Rev. Fr. Don George Trophy which was shared by the two years as
there was no decision in the match though the Sylvestrians were the
present holders.
Former Navy Regional Commander Ajith Boyagoda was the chief guest and
he distributed the main awards.
Vidyartha College resuming from their overnight score of 145 for 5
did not last long against the left arm spin of Sumedha Dissanayake who
ran through the Vidyartha batting yesterday morning to take four of the
five wickets which for just 22 to return the final figures of 4 for 55
despite nursing an injury to his bowling arm. Nimesha Mendis too bowled
to capture 3 for 58.
When the Sylvestrians batted they were guilty of some careless
batting and rash strokes gifted their wickets to their opponents and
were in dire straits at 79 for 6 when rain stopped play.
The awards:
Best fielder: Kasun Nawaratne (Vidyartha)
Best bowlers: Nimesha Mendis (St. Sylvesters)
Best batsman: Muditha Elpitiya (Vidyartha)
