CASL rewards high achievers
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka)
awarded 42 high achieving students from across the country with
scholarships to follow the institute's globally recognised chartered
accountancy qualification.

Twelve students were awarded scholarships under the L. A. Weerasinghe
Scholarship Fund while 30 others were awarded scholarships based on
merit at a ceremony at the Institute's premises.
Students from Ampara, Anuradhapura, Batticaloa, Badulla, Colombo,
Galle, Gampaha, Hambantota, Kandy, Kalutara, Kegalle, Kurunegala,
Matara, Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee and Vavuniya received the scholarships
from the Vice President of CA Sri Lanka, Arjuna Herath, who was the
chief guest.
CA Sri Lanka President, Sujeewa Rajapakse said as the national body
of accountants and as one of the largest tertiary education providers in
the country outside the university system, CA Sri Lanka tries to ensure
that students from all over the country got equal opportunities to study
the institute's course.
"Our qualification is not restricted to the urban population in areas
such as Kandy or Colombo."
He said that the scholarships are awarded from the CA Sri Lanka
Scholarship Foundation which was launched in 2010 and is chaired by B.
R. L. Fernando.
"The annual scholarship program is a part of our Institute's
corporate social responsibility initiative," Rajapakse said.
He thanked CA Sri Lanka members for supporting the foundation with
continuous contributions to ensure the long term success of this
initiative.
CA Sri Lanka, Chief Executive Officer Aruna Alwis said that CA Sri
Lanka is a 53-year-old organisation, and is among the oldest and most
recognised professional bodies in the country. "At present we have
41,000 students following our chartered accountancy course," he said.
