Dear children,
This week we bring you some information about another of our national
treasures - the Wasgamuwa National Park. Do you know that the name
Wasgamuwa was given to the park because of the Sloth bear which was
found in abundance in this area at one time.
The Sloth bear is known in Sinhala as Walaha - hence the name'Walas'
and the word was abridged to 'Was' and then coined with 'gamuwa'. You
will notice children that many place names have some link. Read more
