Esala perahera begins on July 16

The 'Kap planting ceremony' at the Shri Vishnu Maha Devalaya
Devinuwara took place at 2.11 p.m. on Tuesday. Basnayaka Nilame Dishan W
Gunasekera was present. A large gathering of officials and devotees
participated. The six Peli Peraheras (preliminary processions) will be
held from July 16-21 and the 756th Randoli Perahera will parade the
streets on Monday July 22 at 4.59 pm. There will be 45 traditional dance
troupes including five upcountry dance troupes and over 30 elephants
will parade the streets on this day.
Municipal Councillor held over accident

A member of the Dambulla Municipal Council who had allegedly run over
a motorcyclist on the A9 Road was arrested by the police yesterday
morning. The victim identified as Pradeep Sanjeewa Kumara (23) was
allegedly hit by the Councillor's vehicle on the A9 road between
Dambulla and Matale on Friday night. He died of his injuries. The Police
Spokesman said the Municipal Councillor Dinesh Ratnayake was to be
produced in Court yesterday.
Ranaviru Punyanumodana 2013
The "Ranaviru Punyanumodana 2013" jointly orgnised by the
Agriculture, Industries and Environment Minister of the Western
Provincial Council Udaya Gammanpila and the Karuna Samadhi Foundation
will be held tomorrow at 9.15 a.m. at Piliyandala under the patronage of
Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Ministers Gamini Lokuge and Patali
Champika Ranawaka. Service Commanders of the three Armed Forces will
also participate. Scholarships will be awarded to children of
differently-abled and the martyred soldiers who had excelled in the 5th
standard scholarship examination and GCE(OL) examination at this event.
Heart surgery
Jayalath Yapa Nilanthi Kumari of Wedigawatte, Ginnaliya, Urubokka is
suffering from an acute heart disease. Colombo National Hospital
Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Gamini Galappatthy has recommended cardiac
surgery which is estimated to cost Rs. 175,000.
Her parents appeal for public contributions to be remitted to A/c
No.152-2001-2-0061309 of the People's Bank, Matara.
Hip replacement surgery
K.W.A. Shiromala (36) of Waralla, Uvaragala, Medde-ela is suffering
from osteoarthritis. Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon of Sri
Jayawardenapura Hospital, Dr. A.B.S.A. Perera has recommended left total
hip replacement and the surgery is estimated to cost several lakhs of
rupees.
Since her family finds it difficult to meet the cost, they request
public contributions to be remitted to A/c No. 060-2-002-9-0014630 of
the People's bank, Morawaka.
