Twenty years ago a young student of St.Mary's Convent, Matara and
later Stafford College, Colombo ensured that Indu Hewapathirana dreams
of being involved in bridal dressing became a reality.
Her unusual creativity in art work saw the birth of Lassana Manali
the saloon at Main Street, Battaramulla, now a popular centre for
prospective brides and bridegrooms to get their outfits designed by Indu
Hewapathirana. She is happy that she has made her mark in bridal
fashion, and will display her much sought after remarkable creativity.
"The show titled 'Bride and Groom' will be held on July 19, 20, 21 at
BMICH. For the past 20 years I have designed bridal sarees and dresses
including the bridesmaids and page boys outfits and bestmans' suits.
What's more I also handle the embroidery for the bridal sarees and
dresses and to make it complete I turn out the bouquets as well.
"I'm happy that I earned my popularity through word of month.
"It was hard work but it paid off. I studied under Harris Wijesinghe
and then later followed a diploma course in hair styling in Australia. I
must thank my husband, who has always supported me in gaining my
ambition. I run diploma courses for students at Lassana Manali", said
Indu Hewapathirana.
