Ashan Silva stays as best driver

Supercross: Ashan Silva proved that he was the best driver and Gayan
Ax Sandaruwan as the best on motor cycles at the Thirs Walawe Supercross
organised by the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps in
collaboration with the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC) held at the
Croftman’s Autodrome Sevanagala.
Ashan Silva won the Motor Cars event upto 3500 c.c. Event while Gayan
Sandaruwan did well to push Shehan C. Adikari – the winner in previous
two years in the racing motor cycles open event.
There were thrills and spills at the Craftman’s Autodrome last Sunday
(7th) to entertain the large crowd who came from far and near to witness
the skill’s of their favourite drivers and riders. There mix-up when
Shavin Wijerathne, Irfan Fuad and Ranjith Uluwita were involved in a
three-car pile up in the motor car event for Ford Lazer and Mazda 1500cc
cars.
Young Kushan Pieris drove with skill to win the 1300cc and 1500cc
Ford Lazer / Mazda Motor Car events with veteran Upulwan Serasinghe
having to settle for third and second place respectively. Kushan is the
son of veteran driver Dhammika Pieris.
Lt. Col. Duminda Jayasinghe of the Sri Lanka Army who won a race by
driving on his wheel rim last year proved his mettle by driving his Land
Rover Defender to win two out of the three races he entered for.
14 year-old Jaques Gunawardena was undefeated in the two races held
for motor cross bikes up to 85cc (2T) & up to 150cc (4T) riders under 16
while Sameera Premarathne and Sri Lanka Army’s Nihal Wijerathne won two
riding events each as well.
