Groundwater workshop
A workshop on 'Issues and Solutions: Groundwater Resources Management
in Sri Lanka' will be held on Tuesday from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. at the
BMICH
The workshop is organised by Water Resources Board (WRB) with the Dam
Safety and Water Resources Planning Project (DSWRPP).
The chief guest at the inauguration of the workshop will be Minister
of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, Nimal Siripala de Silva.
In many parts of Sri Lanka, groundwater resources are subject to
deterioration in terms of quality and quantity due to natural and
anthropogenic activities.
The Water Resources Board has identified six pilot areas in seven
districts, Anuradhapura, Ampara, Badulla, Matale, Jaffna, Puttalam and
Gampaha, to carry out a comprehensive groundwater study under the second
component of DSWRPP to set up groundwater monitoring networks that
provide information on variation of quality and quantity over time. |
