No CWE outlet in Thihagoda

There is no retail outlet of the Co- operative Wholesale Establishment in the Thihagoda Pradeshiya Sabha area.

Residents have to visit Matara, Kamburupitiya or Hakmana towns to purchase their day to day consumer items at reasonable rates travelling 10 to 15 kilo metres, people complain. A monopoly of private traders is currently prevalent in the Thihagoda town as a result.

The population in the Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat area is almost 90,000 according to statistical data of the Divisional Secretariat. This issue has been take up for discussion at the monthly meetings of the Thihagoda Pradeshiya Sabha and also monthly coordinating committee meetings of the Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat, authorities said.

The matter has also been brought to the prompt attention of the Matara District parliamentarian and the Kamburupitiya SLFP chief organiser Hemal Gunasekera. But no positive response from them in this regard as yet people lament.
