BPWSL to hold development confab

The Business and Professional Women Sri Lanka (BPWSL), a non-governmental, non profit organisation will hold an international conference to promote economic development, joint venture partnerships and eco-tourism to bring about change for a peaceful world. The conference will he held from August 10-12 at the Kingsbury.

The event will facilitate business to business opportunities among participants in coordination with the Board of Investment, Export Development Board and Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

BPWSL President, Janaki Gunawardena said that to build a new Sri Lanka we should start by changing our perceptions, values and the way business is conducted. The public and private sector should work with responsibility towards the future of the country and be free of corruption.

BPWSL has invited 125 affiliates from the five continents.

"We intend to appoint selected participants from across the world to be ambassadors of change and take the message of peace and development to their countries.

The ambassadors will advocate and lobby against destructive activities and focus on changing perceptions and values and the manner of doing business.

The conference will provide an opportunity to bring people from across the world to show the need for international understanding, friendship and communication.

"We believe that development of a country will be complete only when women become equal participants in social and economic activities which is the change that is needed to achieve universal peace. Gunawardena said change is a holistic approach which helps children reach their potential with the help of the collective capabilites of BPWSL.

BPWSL's project 'Change' provides a stable education for less privileged children.

Aushi Leeyana, a girl from a low income family, brought change to her village. BPW built a house for Aushi whose house was destroyed due to heavy rain. She calls upon others to help children develop their full potential and be useful citizens.

BPWSL has won many accolades for its contribution to bring about change in perception, values and way of doing business and empowering women for development. BPWSL is the organiser of the Commonwealth Business Forum in Sri Lanka in November.
