Afghan attack targets Indian mission

Suicide bombers have targeted the Indian consulate in the eastern
Afghan city of Jalalabad.
Three bombers drove up in a car before detonating their explosives,
police said.Gunfire was heard for an hour after the blast which took
place at 10:00 local time (06:30 GMT).
At least three civilians are reported to have been killed, but Indian
officials say no Indian citizens were hurt.Indian buildings in
Afghanistan have been attacked before.
At least 20 people were injured in the Jalalabad attack, according to
the police.
"A car containing explosives hit a barrier near the consulate and
detonated," Ahmadzia Abdulzai, Nangarhar province spokesman, told AFP
news agency.
He said the blast had damaged nearby shops.It is not clear who was
behind the blast. Jalalabad has frequently been the target of Taliban
attacks, including a bomb blast at the airport last year, but a Taliban
spokesman denied responsibility. |
