Post Boxes
Look around and you will notice colours being used to give the public
some information. Look at your calendar. In addition to Sundays, some
other days are also in red to tell us that they are holidays.
Red post boxes on the roadside are a familiar sight. They are not
boxes but short pillars, about five feet high. Hence they are called
pillar boxes. Letters to be posted are dropped into them. There are red
boxes outside some shops. They too are letter boxes.
In some post offices you will see blue pillar boxes. They are for
air-mail letters. In Colombo city there are green pillars at some road
junctions. Only letters address in Colombo should be posted in the green
pillars. |
