Sri Lanka ruggerites in two smashing wins over UAE and Thailand
The Sri Lanka sevens rugby team came up with another superb
performance to win both matches of pool ‘C’ on the first day of the
third leg of the HSBC Asian sevens circuit which began at the Gymtihens
Club grounds, Mumbai India yesterday.
They began their campaign with a smashing 55 points (five goals, four
tries) to 5 (one try) win against United Arab Emirates after leading
38-0 at the breather.
Skipper Fazil Marija (one), Chula Susantha (two) Sandun Herath (two),
Srinath Sooriyabandara (one), Mithun Hapugoda (one), Shehan Pathirana
(one) and Sajith Saranga (one) scored the tries for Sri Lanka with
skipper Fazil Marja adding the extra points to five tries.
In their second game the Lankans scored a convincing 28 points (four
goals) to 5 (one try) win over Asia's fifth ranked team Thailand after
leading 7-5 at ‘Lemons'.
Sri Lanka scored through Srinath Sooriyabandara early in the game
which was converted by Fazil Marija to give them a 7-5 lead and went
into take control of the game by scoring three more tries in the second
half through Sajith Saranga (one), Dinusha Chathuranga (one) and Mithun
Hapugoda (one) with Fazil Marija converting all three tries.
Sri Lanka will meet Philippines in the Cup Championship quarter-final
at 11.20 am today. |
